I know this is probably going around right now but there was a comment made by SimGuruGrant about the idea of TS5 and this is what he said:

“We’re not working on Sims 5. We’re not thinking about Sims 5. If Sims 4 isn’t successful, there won’t be a Sims 5.”

Now a lot of people think it sounds almost like he's basically saying if you don't invest in TS4 you don't get a TS5. That's not what I think though. Was it bad that he made the comment? Yes. Was it unprofessional? Very much so. Was it an actual threat? Maybe Yes and Maybe No. All I know is that personally for me, it's WAY too early to be talking about TS5 I mean for most of us the game came out 4-6 days ago so I can see where he's coming from with that comment. I think EA is focusing more on fixing bugs and getting patches ready for the Base Game because believe it or not there are a lot of bugs but again, that's expected. So the thought of TS5 is on the back burner if that. However I do want to point out that he said if the game wasn't successful which makes me wonder if he doesn't believe the 4th generation will make it. I mean that's just my opinion.

So what do you guys think? Do you still have faith in the series? Or will it be a bigger flop than SimCity?

I totally agree that is was unprofessional and not even the appropriate time being that the sims 4 just came out. When he says "If Sims 4 isn’t successful, there won’t be a Sims 5." I interpret it more as, if this game doesn't go anywhere we aren't spending the time or money in making another one, which is totally still a threat and is a great way to add to all the judgement about the sims 4. I don't think Gram thought that one through too well.

To be honest I see where he's coming from. I don't think it was meant as a threat, more as a simple reality. If the game doesn't sell well enough, there most likely won't be another installment. Nothing more nothing less. I dunno, maybe I'm just perceiving it differently.

I have faith. I wasn't sure I was gonna like it but so far the only thing that I've not liked (and this is saying something seeing as I had a few issues with loading screens, toddlers, pools, and STORY PROGRESSION) is the bugs. IF there is a Sims 5, all I can hope is that Maxis does better than this installment. I can't say anything for EA, because EA is EA.

ALL of that said, I agree with you SimFan, it's too early to even be thinking about the Sims 5. We've just gotten the Sims 4, I think it's best to focus on it rather than a possible sequel.

Its definitely too early to even think of TS5, I agree. I think the comment was a little strange to just put out there, but I suppose I see where his thoughts were. Either way, I'm going to stay optimistic, and just enjoy TS4 for now.

The Sims 4 will be successful either way. There's no reason anyone should be head over heels about it, especially considering TS4 is only a week old as of tomorrow (September 9th). TS3's launch flopped more or less the same as TS4's doing-- or so that's what everyone's constantly suggesting, but it (TS3) gradually picked up as we got more content.

It's not even the game itself that completely sells the franchise, it's the DLC and microtransactions. Look at TS3, it wasn't successful by just EPs and SPs alone, a lot of the revenue they generated was through microtransactions and DLC.
